Still Laughing at "Asbestos UK"

Hilarious thread (other than the fact that half of Huddersfield are going to die) from the facebook group "Asbestos UK":

In this video we can see piles of material with "danger - asbestos" signs placed on the ground and amongst the rubble. no asbestos warning signs where placed around this site - only "danger - demolition" signs, and the site was not secured - only a thin wire fence surrounded it, and a wall which is broken down in places, allowing children to easily climb into the site. Also, we can see that children are playing around the area where the material was put. We've been watching the site for weeks prior to the demolition, and we saw these piles of material being created. Nothing was removed from the site during this time. I'm sure the local residents will back up this account. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10202636029595265&stream_ref=10Like · Mark Fisher The piles of material with the "danger - asbestos" signs on where unmoved when the demolition commenced, and the site was still unsecured. After we made the first post, all work on the site suddenly stopped, except for 3 JCB's who appeared to be piling rubble over the piles of material. Prior to this, workers where seen in and amongst the material without breath masks. Also, there was no sign of any material being removed prior to the commencement of the demolition.9 hrs · LikeMartin Cozens I could stick a sign saying toilet on my kitchen door does not mean its the toilet. Threatening to take people's name for an inquest is just absurd mate and makes you look really silly.
If you are truly alarmed by an asbestos warning label on mmmf just report to the HSE and let them deal with it.

  1. The person who took the video is dead - - (unrelated()). RIP Spiney x

Those who've come on here to slag off the work of Mark Fisher and the dearly-missed Spiney, who are good friends and valuable associates to me, have written without RESPECT (including self-respect).

I find this sad, but it's nothing compared to the risk that the mass of suspect material (asbestos, in other words).

If you think this has all been cooked up from fantasy then you're in a fantasy world yourself. I'd suggest get off facebook etc and look at the real world.

Actually, however much time we spend looking at pixels on a screen, our physical bodies still rely on an outer environment that isn't full of asbestos pollution.

Activists who have trespassed on the site have made a willing sacrifice, knowing that for a single person asbestosis is, however horriendous, a small price to pay to save a whole community from mass asbestosis.

Mark Fisher is a person who cares deeply about those nearby - he lives near the site and I myself am about 1 1/2 miles from it as the crow flies (eg. downwind).

Many of the other posts to this site clearly demonstrate the folly and delusion of people who are trying to be clever rather than caring.

Actually, caring comes first, and if you can do it cleverly then all the better, but I've been on the site and seen this stuff with my own eyes and if you want to call me a liar or stupid then I'd call you uncaring and redundant.

Which you aren't of course. You'd just be misguided and blinkered.

WAKE UP!! ------- This is RED ALERT DANGER in Crosland Moor.

  2. And yes, kids play on building sites.

The Environment Agency phoned me today and although they say they can only intervene once the material is being transported from the site, this employee was not a jobsworth and he advised me on further steps to take and told me of worst-case scenarios where kids had been throwing snowballs made of asbestos.

There are snowdrifts-worth of asbestos on that site, and if, somehow it all were to magically turn out not to be asbestos, then that would be great and I'd have a great big smile on my face admitting I'd been wrong, but how then would it have done harm to let investigation take place on the site? An official investigation by the HSE is indeed what we need.

All reliable accounts say that this is asbestos and the delay of the authorities to take this seriously ( - - and they ARE now starting to take this seriously - ! - ) has been a shaft between the ribs to the folk of Huddersfield, particularly those unfortunate enough to live right by St. Luke's itself.

This isn't about trying to fix blame or slag off the system.

It's about trying to link up the relevant authorities from below to fix this particular problem. Whatever our views about society and politics, asbestos contamination is a killer for any of us.

All parties & political persuasions admit there are cracks in the system. Labour, Tory, LibDem etc. all want to make the system better, while the NHS, the HSE, and the council are there to keep the system running as smoothly as possible. The demolition firm too are there to do a job for the people of Huddersfield, but unfortunately they're doing it all wrong.

Sometimes it really is down to local people to plug the gap. Have you forgotten what WORK is actually for? It's for survival and its enhancement. It's JOBS that get you money, but the WORK has to be done jobs or not, or we all die, end of.

Mark Fisher is not lazy. He works for the scant gain of knowing that his community is safe.

I can't clear up all this material by myself and nor can Mark Fisher, but now that Spiney has died, Mark Fisher is one of the few people I personally know to be working diligently towards getting this cleared up by the people who CAN & MUST -

eg. Professional Ltd (the demolition company who remain in denial), the Health And Safety Executive (HSE), who are slowly waking up to this, and Kirklees council, who’ve maintained a stoic silence towards my own enquiries.

Our Labour MP Barry Sheerman reprezenting Huddersfield is due to meet the Conservative MP for neighbouring Holme Valley (in whose constituency St. Luke's lies) to get this mess sorted out.

Call me naive, but it honestly brings a tear to my eye to hear that two politicians of opposing parties are teaming up to address a massive matter for the people and areas they reprezent.

To my knowledge this has not been reported on by official media channels, so Messrs Sheerman and McCartney are not just going to do this as a trick to win votes.

However well-intentioned they are, neither of these two worthy gentlemen can personally clear this up with masks, gloves, etc.,yet their political influence will help to clinch this, and not a minute too soon.

I predict that between the lot of us we’ll get the Health And Safety Executive to begin action on this by mid July, but preferably much sooner.

Though none of us ordinary good-willed citizens or even ordinary good-willed MPs can control when they do act, we can help tip the balance by phoning the Health And Safety Executive about St Lukes on 0300 003 1747

They can be emailed on concerns@hse.gsi.gov.uk

and they=the HSE also have an online form to report incidents - https://extranet.hse.gov.uk/lfserver/external/concern1

So if people want to be rude towards Mark Fisher, then be rude to the whole of Huddersfield.

Or better yet, OPEN YOUR EYES
